A modern heat pump gives you year-round comfort and lower energy bills in one ultra-efficient system. In summer, it cools like an air conditioner; in winter, it pulls gentle, even heat from outdoor air—using far less energy than electric baseboards or gas furnaces. That means quieter operation, fewer hot-and-cold spots, and a smaller carbon footprint. Today’s cold-climate models perform reliably even on frosty days, and many homeowners qualify for rebates that make upgrading more affordable. If you want comfort, efficiency, and cleaner air in one solution, a heat pump is the smart choice.
Warren and Colleen were tired of watching their money burn away every winter with their old oil furnace. When they called Red Fox, we helped them design a high-efficiency heat pump system and walked them through all the available grants and rebates for switching off oil. Between federal and provincial incentives and a few local rebates, Warren and Colleen qualified for $16,000 in savings on their upgrade. Now their home is quieter, more comfortable year-round, and their heating bill is dramatically lower—without the smell, mess, or price swings of oil.
If you live in B.C. and your home is heated with electric baseboards/furnace or oil, there’s a good chance you qualify for some level of rebate. Most programs look at a few simple things:
Your home is in B.C. and at least 12 months old
It’s your primary residence
You’re upgrading to a high-efficiency, cold-climate heat pump installed by a licensed contractor
In some cases, your household income (for enhanced, income-based rebates)
When you request a quote from us, we:
Look at how you currently heat your home (electric or oil)
Confirm which rebate programs you’re likely eligible for
Specify a rebate-approved heat pump
Give you a clear estimate showing your approximate cost after rebates
You don’t have to sort through all the fine print—we’ll walk you through what you qualify for and help you get every dollar you’re entitled to.
A dual fuel system uses two heat sources on the same system:
A heat pump for efficient electric heating and cooling
A gas furnace for fast, powerful heat when you want it
Most of the season, you can run on the heat pump to keep costs down and enjoy quiet, even comfort plus central air conditioning in the summer. When you want quick, high-output heat—like on really cold mornings—you can switch to the gas furnace.
The big advantage is optionality: you choose between electric and gas based on comfort, cost, and preference, without giving up cooling or reliability.
Are rebates still available?
Yes, you can still qualify for rebates with a dual fuel system even though it includes a gas furnace. The key is using a high-efficiency, cold-climate heat pump paired with a high-efficiency furnace that meets current rebate program requirements.
As long as the heat pump side of the system is doing the primary heating and the equipment is on the approved list, you can often access many of the same incentives as an all-electric system—while still keeping the comfort and peace of mind of gas backup.
