The Right System for Your Home
Red Fox has provided heat pump services in Victoria for 36 years. Every home is different — square footage, insulation, ductwork, electrical capacity, the way you actually live in the space. There's no single "best" heat pump, only the right one for your home.
Heat pumps come in all sizes, shapes, efficiency ratings, noise levels, and even colours. There are dozens of ways to install a system. When you get a quote, you should always ask why a particular configuration is being recommended for your home — and after 36 years, we've gotten really good at figuring out the why.
It's our goal to put the right system for you into your home, for lasting comfort and enjoyability — not the most expensive one, not the easiest one for us to install, the right one. Start with a free in-home estimate from one of our experienced comfort advisors.

What to Expect During Your Free Estimate
Step 1 — The Walk-Through
One of our comfort advisors will conduct a comprehensive review of your heating and cooling needs. This is a collaborative process — we draw on our experience while listening to your specific needs and goals.
The advisor measures airflow, square footage, insulation, windows, vents, and electrical panels. We measure your current system's airflow with specialized tools to ensure your new heat pump will fit properly. This is the number one problem with heat pump retrofits — undersized or oversized systems that never deliver the comfort or efficiency they should.
This is also when you can ask about rebates, air quality add-ons, equipment brands, and financing options.
Step 2 — The Quote
After reviewing your home and the options, our comfort advisor will head to their truck and print out a detailed quote with all of the options you've discussed. We walk you through warranties, financing, rebates, and installation timing.
We don't make you decide then and there like some high-pressure sales teams do — although if you're happy you're free to move forward right away.
Step 3 — The Installation
Installation begins with a walk-through from the lead installer outlining the day's process. We take extra care making sure your home, family, and pets are treated with respect throughout the whole installation.
Our team uses drop cloths to protect floors and boot covers indoors. We carry several cordless vacuums and will take care of any debris or dust. Before we leave, we ask if cleanup is satisfactory. If it isn't, we'll send an entire cleaning team to clean your whole house — no questions asked.
Step 4 — Endless Comfort
After installation, we remain available for any questions and system guidance. You get a fantastic parts and labour warranty, and we'll be around to service your system to keep it properly maintained.
We look forward to being a lifelong partner for all your heating and cooling needs.
Two main approaches
Ducted Central vs. Ductless Heat Pumps
Ducted Central Heat Pumps
A ducted system uses a central air handler to distribute conditioned air through supply ducts to each room and back through return ducts. Your thermostat controls when the system operates.
An indoor coil adds or removes heat using a refrigerant loop connected to the outdoor unit. Dampers and zoning controls balance airflow for even heating and cooling. Since everything runs through one central filter, ducted systems can dramatically improve indoor air quality with high-MERV filters or UV/ionization add-ons. Maintenance is simple — regular filter replacement and an annual tune-up.
Best for: homes that already have ductwork from an existing furnace, or new builds where ducts are being run anyway.
Ductless Heat Pumps (Mini-Splits)
A ductless system serves one room or zone with individual indoor units connected to a small outdoor unit. You get precise temperature control, quiet operation, and excellent efficiency year-round.
Where ductless is a great fit:
- Homes without existing ducts (character homes, cottages, suites)
- Additions, garden suites, garages/shops, and sunrooms
- Condos and townhomes where space is tight and comfort varies by room
- Hot or cold problem areas that central systems can't balance
- Multi-generational or rental spaces needing independent control
Indoor unit styles — mix and match for your home:
- Wall-mounted (high wall): Most common, quick to install, strong air throw
- Floor console: Sits low like a radiator — ideal under windows or in knee-wall rooms
- Ceiling cassette (1-way or 4-way): Discreet, flush appearance with wide, even distribution
- Ceiling-suspended: For big open rooms with limited wall space

Will a Heat Pump Save Me Money?
Older heating systems carry hidden costs that don't show up on the price tag:
Higher monthly bills
Electric baseboards and oil furnaces are some of the most expensive ways to heat a home. They burn through hydro or oil just to keep up, especially during cold snaps.
No relief in summer
Without a heat pump, you don't have real air conditioning. That means sleepless hot nights, stuffy bedrooms, and living spaces that aren't comfortable when we get those longer, hotter summer stretches the Island has been seeing.
The "surprise" breakdown
Older systems often fail at the worst possible time — the coldest week of the year, right before a holiday, or when everyone is already booked solid.
When you add it all together, the cost of not upgrading — high oil or electric bills, no summer cooling, and unexpected breakdowns — often ends up higher than simply investing in a properly sized, high-efficiency heat pump (especially once rebates are factored in).
Up to $21,000 in incentives
Heat Pump Rebate Eligibility
If your home in B.C. is heated with electric baseboards, an electric furnace, or oil, there's a good chance you qualify for some level of rebate.
Basic eligibility:
- Home is in B.C. and at least 12 months old
- It's your primary residence
- You're upgrading to a high-efficiency, cold-climate heat pump installed by a licensed contractor
- In some cases, household income applies for enhanced rebates
How we help:
We examine your current heating method, confirm which eligible rebate programs you qualify for, specify approved heat pump models, and provide a clear estimate showing your approximate cost after rebates.
You don't have to sort through all the fine print — we'll walk you through what you qualify for and help you get every dollar you're entitled to. See our full rebate guide.
